The Whistle has commended the military's efforts against Boko Haram in the past weeks and has stated that this is no incidental victory, but that President Jonathan took crucial steps to ensure the success of the military offensive.

"It seems that President Goodluck Jonathan’s characteristically quiet nature is a perfect foil for his smooth strategies," says The Whistle, "and having the psychological upper hand in protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity."

The five 'crucial moves' are listed below:

1. Improved welfare and boosting the morale of the troops through visits.
2. Foreign diplomacy moves:
3. Consultations within the country
4. Reinforcing the military with equipment:
5. Timing is everything: The military had said since December 2014 that it would begin a big offensive against the terrorists in February. It has stuck to that schedule and now producing results
