On Jega and Odimegwu
Nigeria is not owned by the North. Is it not the same section 153 of the CFRN that established the NPC that also established the INEC?
If President Jonathan asked Chief Festus Odimegwu to resign or be fired for making the following comment (below) which angered most of the Northern Politicians, he can also ask JEGA to do same over certain concerns that has been raised by some of the Southern Leaders about JEGA, and nothing will happen.
Chief Festus Odimegwu had angered most of the Northern Politicians when he said: “No census has been credible in Nigeria since 1816. Even the one conducted in 2006 is not credible. I have the records and evidence produced by scholars and professors of repute; this is not my report. If the current laws are not amended, the planned 2016 census will not succeed.”
The statement which angered most of the Northern Politicians as made evident in the scathing remark on Odimegwu, by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso while speaking to Journalists, after a meeting with the President at the state house led to the President’s directive to Odimegwu to resign or be fired:
“I also raised the issue of the Chairman of the National Population Commission headed by one Festus Odimegwu. We are not happy about that appointment, and think that it was a mistake.”
“He had only one thing in alcoholic industry (sic), all his life. And my guess is that he’s taking a lot of his products and that is why we feel that his appointment is a mistake because he cannot be the Chairman of NPC and at the same time attack what his predecessors have done,” the governor said.
The APC should stop heating the polity, because there is nothing that will happen to JEGA now that has not happened in the past. I just wonder the frenzy, hysteria and spate with which the APC are fighting against the rumoured removal of JEGA
