A 21-year-old boy in Texas has been arrested on suspicion of killing his transgender girlfriend.
A 24-year-old transgender woman, Ty Underwood was found dead on Monday, January 26 and her boyfriend Carlton Ray Champion Jr. became a suspect after police got a tip from Ty Underwood’s roommate,Kedrick Darks that he had been dating the deceased several weeks prior to her death.
When he was interviewed by the police, Charlton who is a popular footballer in Texas, told police that they met on a social media platform called Kik.
A search on Charlton’s computer revealed a series of back and forth messages dating back to Monday, January 19.
In some of the messages, Underwood was angry with Charlton for failing to see her that night like they have planned to. In of the messages, Underwood tells Charlton that she no longer wanted to see Champion, to which he allegedly responded: "That’s how it is now, I will make it up.”
According to reports, investigators obtained a surveillance video which allegedly shows Charlton exiting his dorm early on the morning of January 26 following the Kik conversation.
They say Champion met up with Ty - and when he found out he was born a male, Champion allegedly killed him.
When Charlton’s father was interviewed by investigators, he revealed that Carlton was meeting Underwood and thought she was female. He added that Carlton was supposed to “get some type of sexual favour from Underwood but realized she was a male.”
Investigators say Champion’s jacket worn at the time of the murder tested positive for blood in a preliminary test that’s too basic to determine whose blood was sampled
